Welcome to the National Water Commission
We live on the driest inhabited continent in the world, rainfall is extremely variable and droughts are a common occurrence. Add to this Australia's environmental responsibilities, and improving the management of our water resources becomes one of the greatest conservation challenges that we face.
The National Water Commission is responsible for helping to drive national water reform and advising the Minister for Climate Change and Water and State and Territory governments on water issues. The Commission is also responsible for managing the implementation of the National Water Initiative - the blueprint for national water reform - and implementing two programmes of the Australian Government Water Fund.
This website provides information about the Commission and its role, including information on the implementation of the National Water Initiative and Australian Government Water Fund programmes and the Commission's vision for water management in Australia (PDF 20KB).
You can also read about latest news from the Commission, our progress on national water reform and key water reform issues. We appreciate your feedback on the site and the work of the Commission and you can send us your comments or questions through our contact form.
