Development of national groundwater modelling guidelines

Project details

Objective: To provide water managers with greater confidence in the outputs of groundwater modelling. Consequently, management decisions for water planners, managers, users and other parties will be eased as they scope, manage and evaluate the results of the studies
Funding:

$350,000 plus applicable GST from the Australian Government

Jurisdiction: National
Commencing: August 2010
Completion: March 2012

About the project

The Murray-Darling Basin Commission (MDBC) Groundwater Modelling Guidelines were issued in January 2001 and were adopted as the de-facto national standard. Since then there have been significant advances in Australia's knowledge of groundwater and modelling, and information technology. There is now an identified need to develop national guidelines that build on the MDB guidelines.

The new national guidelines will modernise the guidelines to improve confidence in Australia's groundwater models and to provide certainty in water management and planning decisions. The project results will be published in a Waterlines publication.

Project benefits

The project will contribute to improved modelling outputs, and therefore water management and planning decisions, across Australia.
