Assessment of groundwater bore deterioration

Project details

Objective:

To determine the possible economic impact of the deterioration and the cost of rehabilitation of bores.

Funding:

$100 000

Jurisdiction:

National

Commenced:

September 2008

Completed: June 2010

About the project

This project will determine the extent of the problem of bore casing deterioration throughout Australia and assess the potential for cross-contamination of aquifers from corroded bore casing. The project will determine the possible economic impact of the deterioration and the cost of rehabilitation of bores.

Project benefits

This project will investigate the extent and economic impacts of the deterioration of bore casings and technical and economic measures and mechanisms that can be used to reduce the rehabilitation cost to the bore owner. The information will then be used by the states and territories to inform future management decisions regarding this issue.

Progress

The project is complete and a Waterlines report has been published.
