We are an Australian Government statutory authority and operate under the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997 and the Public Service Act 1999.
The Commission has developed a strategic plan that sets the direction for our activities over the period 2012 to 2015.
In fulfilling its statutory powers and functions, the Commission provides its assessments and advice to the Australian Government Minister for Water and COAG parties.
Administratively we report to the Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and Urban Water.
The Commission Chair is responsible for the delivery of the Commission’s functions, while the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for our day-to-day operations.
The Commission reports on its performance in accordance with the performance information framework set out in our Portfolio Budget Statements and in accordance with other government reporting frameworks. The Commission is also accountable for its activities through the Australian Parliament.
Our governance structures provide a comprehensive framework to support performance across the organisation, while ensuring that key accountability requirements are met. As a public sector agency, our decisions must be transparent, our policies justifiable and our practices beyond reproach.
