Water utility performance
Annual performance reports from urban water utilities and rural water service providers benchmark pricing and service quality, and are a key commitment under the National Water Initiative.
Under the National Water Initiative, signatory governments have agreed to independently and publicly report pricing and service quality of water delivery agencies every year.
Due to the differences in the nature of urban and rural water industries, different performance reporting models apply to urban and rural water delivery agencies.
The annual National Performance Reports provide for a comparison of water utility performance over time and between utilities, but do not report performance against predetermined benchmarks.
The reports are based on a nationally consistent performance framework that builds on reporting already in place in the urban and rural water sectors. Updated versions of the framework are published in April each year.
Performance reporting
The National Performance Reporting Framework for urban utilities was finalised in June 2006. At April 2010, there had been four annual urban utilities performance reports.
The rural framework was finalised in May 2007. At April 2010, there had been three annual rural utilities performance reports.
