Stakeholders contribute to the 2011 Biennial Assessment: More than fifty water sector representatives attended the 2011 Stakeholder Forum, expressing broad support for emerging findings in the Commission's upcoming assessment of water reform progress.

Improving Adelaide's gardens: Senator Don Farrell launched an innovative web tool to help Adelaide gardeners conserve water - helping them use less water to achieve the same or better results.

IRP model for water planners: A new report showcases an Integrated Resource Planning model for water planners. A series of manuals is also available, together with case studies demonstrating the model's use in two Australian cities.

Climate change's impact on MDB groundwater: A technical report outlines the results of a modelling study on the impact of climate change and variability on dryland groundwater recharge in the Murray-Darling Basin.

Commission submissions to parliamentary inquiries : See the Commission's submissions to the Senate Standing Committee on Rural Affairs and Transport Inquiry: The Management of the Murray Darling Basin and the House Standing Committee on Regional Australia - Inquiry into the impact of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan in Regional Australia.

Stocktake of groundwater terms : A Waterlines report sets out the groundwater terms and management concepts used across Australia. The definitions have been cross referenced with Commonwealth and jurisdictional water acts and legislative documents.

Groundwater investigations along the SA-VIC border : One of the Commission's projects is investigating groundwater on the SA / VIC border to improve the management of this precious resource.

Science seminar: the drying out of south-west WA : Dr Bryson Bates from CSIRO's Climate Adaptation Flagship program gave a seminar at the Commission last month about why south-west Western Australia is drying out.

Science seminar: protocols to benefit native fish : Dr Ben Gawne and Dr Leah Beesley discussed the results of a Commission project looking at the environmental watering protocols that maximise benefits to native fish populations.

Trade in the Murray-Darling Basin : As a result of its efforts to continually improve water market information, the Commission has published an errata to the Australian Water Markets Report 2009-10. Two tables have been updated to more accurately reflect the volumes of trade occurring within the MDB, and in water systems outside the MDB.

Upcoming events: The Commission will be involved in the following upcoming events:

  • Integrated Resource Planning for urban water workshops in Brisbane, Townsville and Perth on 6,7 and 8 April.
  • OzWater conference in Adelaide 9-11 May.
