Commission Chair welcomes external review of the National Water Commission

Ms Chloe Munro has welcomed the announcement by Senator Don Farrell that the Commission will be reviewed, as is required by the National Water Commission Act 2004.

First Peoples' Water Engagement Council (FPWEC) meets in Darwin

The Council met last week to plan for a First Peoples' National Water Summit, which will formulate a nationally endorsed position on Indigenous participation in water planning.

A Commission funded project has recently delivered the Wet Rocks website -  a teaching package for secondary students to learn about groundwater through fun interactive games.

A delegation of Afghan engineers recently visited the Commission as part of a study tour to investigate modern water conservation techniques.

River losses from losing streams in NSW

The NSW Office of Water has published the final report from a Commission co-funded project which will assist managers to better quantify the water exchange between rivers and groundwater.

Commission Chair Chloe Munro spoke at the Water Australia Summit and said that there is still work to be done under the NWI, including completing current commitments, facing emerging challenges and strengthening underdone elements.

Discussing Australia's future directions in urban water

The Commission will be involved in the following upcoming events:

  • Irrigation Australia Conference, Launceston, 22-25 August: The Commission is a Gold Sponsor of the event. Representatives from the Commission are involved in five sessions.
  • 14th International River symposium, Brisbane, 26-29 September: The event will include a Commission session on its  Development and implementation of the framework for the assessment of river and wetland health (FARWH) projects.
  • The Commission-sponsored Our Water travelling exhibition is at Scitech Discovery Centre in Perth until September 18.
