Implementation
As signatories to the National Water Initiative (NWI), all state and territory governments were required to lodge plans for how they will implement the requirements of the NWI.
These plans, which are accredited by the National Water Commission, include actions and timelines for implementation of key actions under the NWI.
Implementation plans
To date the Commission has accredited nine NWI Implementation Plans:
- Australian Government
- New South Wales
- Victoria
- Queensland
- South Australia
- Australian Capital Territory
- Tasmania
- Northern Territory
- Western Australia
The plans highlight a number of areas where jurisdictions needed to further develop their water management arrangements to meet the requirements of the NWI.
Supporting implementation
Implementation of the NWI is supported by the Australian Government's Raising National Water Standards Program.
