Water data sharing

This position statement outlines our position on water data and water data sharing, and refers to an associated Waterlines report.
The National Water Initiative (NWI) commits all governments of Australia to ensure adequate water measurement, water monitoring and water reporting systems are in place in all jurisdictions.
The NWI envisages a national framework for water accounting systems including standardised reporting formats and water resource accounts that can be reconciled annually and aggregated to produce a national water balance.
National water accounting requires national standards, protocols and cooperation in the collection and sharing of water data.
