About the project

Initial funding was provided to convene a National Water Skills Forum, which was held in Canberra on 17 March 2008 jointly by the National Water Commission, the Australian Water Association and the Water Services Association of Australia. The Forum generated a consensus that an industry-wide collective approach was needed to tackle skills shortages.

As a result of the Forum the Water Industry Skills Taskforce (WIST) was established as a national CEO-level body bringing together industry and government leaders to address the national skills shortages. WIST was closely involved in the implementation of the COAG-endorsed National Water Industry Skills Strategy.
