About the project
Funding has been provided to Government Skills Australia to develop consistent learning materials and resources for the training and assessment of people undertaking accredited courses for improved water management in Australia at Certificate II, III and IV levels.
While a national Water Training Package has been endorsed by the water industry, there has been considerable variation in delivery and assessment methods, leading to fragmented and inconsistent outcomes. This project has developed and promoted learning resources and assessment outcomes which are nationally consistent, portable and adopted by all sectors of the industry as the standard.
Under this project, training resources have been developed for a total of 130 Units at Certificate II-IV levels. These were developed in close consultation with key stakeholders in education, training, peak water associations and professionals in the water industry, and in the various states and territories. They now support Certificate II-IV courses for people newly recruited as water operators through to people with trade or tertiary qualifications who need water specific application of skills.
Project benefits
The project is now increasing access to high quality, nationally consistent, portable and accepted qualifications for all Australians interested in working in the water industry, including people in remote and isolated communities. It is also contributing to ongoing water reform under the National Water Initiative by building the capacity of people working in the water industry is an essential prerequisite for achieving better water management and use across Australia.
