About the project
The project will be conducted over two stages. Stage one will review the current pricing arrangements for recycled water and assess the extent to which these arrangements can be applied to stormwater re-use. From this review, the project will develop a comprehensive and practical set of pricing principles for recycled water and stormwater re-use which acknowledge the different scenarios under which recycled water and stormwater re-use schemes are likely to be implemented. Stage two will assist states and territories, local governments and water utilities adopt these principles.
Project benefits
Recycled water and stormwater re-use options are increasingly being investigated and implemented more vigorously as water availability continues to become more variable across Australia. This project seeks to develop and implement pricing policies which will encourage the efficient use of recycled water and stormwater and the infrastructure used to supply these products in accordance with the direction provided for under the NWI.
Progress
Stage one of the project is complete. Draft principles for pricing recycled water and stormwater re-use have been developed. The draft principles are yet to be considered by water Ministers.
