Objective:

To understand the interaction between water and climate change policy, including the possible implications of adaptation and mitigation measures on the water sector and related sectors such as energy, renewable, agriculture, mining and forestry.

Funding:

Expenditure from the Australian Water Fund Account of up to $700,000 plus applicable GST has been approved.

About the project

  • In accordance with the objectives in paragraph 23 of the National Water Initiative, and notably objective 23(ix) - addressing future adjustment issues that may impact on water users and communities - the project will analyse the relationship between water policy and climate change policy, including the implications of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures on the water sector and other related sectors
  • Consultation with Commonwealth and state government agencies, industry groups and other representative bodies will take place in a series of reference panel meetings and workshops
  • After such consultation, and further research and analysis, the project will deliver a final report, scheduled for release in March 2012.
