About the project
The project has developed a comprehensive Australian Water Resources Information System (AWRIS) compliant decision support system for the improved management of water use and flows in unregulated stystems, using the Condamine-Balonne as a trial catchment.
This system provided all regional water users with access to a reporting tool that will help them to comply with the water extraction policy set by government. Water managers now have an accurate estimate of the catchment water status and forecasts, providing improved management of available water for all water users including irrigators and the environment.
Project benefits
This project has:
- Improved the capacity to monitor, evaluate and report on water resources by showing historic and real time water resource information. This enables water managers and water users to more accurately determine current and forecast future water availability
- Enabled water managers to be aware and control extractions and environmental flows as they happen in order to ensure that environmental outcomes are met.
The project supports the implementation of National Water Initiative by improving the quality and extent of information underpinning water planning and management.
