Project details
| Objective: | To improve the effectiveness of water allocation planning |
| Funding: | $4.5 million plus applicable GST |
| Jurisdiction: | National |
| Commencing: | July 2010 |
| Completion: | March 2012 |
About the project
Effective water planning is fundamental to the National Water Initiative (NWI) and is the best way for determining how we share valuable water resources among competing uses. The Commission is working to assist governments to meet their commitments under the NWI and to build community confidence in water planning processes.
Under this project, jurisdictions are invited to develop projects that will help them address the water planning recommendations in the Commission's 2009 Biennial report. The project will also provide much needed support to those jurisdictions within the Murray-Darling Basin that are required to develop new, or re-set existing, water allocation plans.
Project benefits
The project will provide:
- an improved understanding of the barriers to effective water allocation planning
- improved water allocation planning processes across Australia.
