Technology to reduce evaporation
Project details
| Objective: | Formulate and test new technologies for evaporation control of water storages |
| Funding: | $225,000 plus applicable GST |
| Jurisdiction: | National |
| Commenced: | June 2010 |
| Completion: | October 2011 |
About the project
This project aims to reduce evaporative losses of water from storages and channels, thereby increasing efficiency of storage and delivery of water.
The project will formulate and evaluate the performance of new chemical/technological solutions for evaporation control.
Ultra thin films (monolayers) will be tested in the laboratory and in field trials.
It will deliver reports on trials and testing, feasibility, commercialisation, environmental impacts, marketing, and peer reviews.
Project is being delivered by the National Program for Sustainable Irrigation at the Cotton Research and Development Corporation.
Research is being undertaken by the CRC for Polymers.
Project benefits
If product testing and development results in a commercial successful outcome, water savings from large on-farm storages are estimated to possibly exceed 300GL/year.
