About the project
The MAR guidelines provide a national risk assessment framework to ensure that MAR operations and the water sourced from these schemes is safe in terms of human health and the environment. The national guidelines are intended to give certainty to the risk assessments used in approving projects and facilitating more widespread use of MAR schemes; preventing the failure of MAR projects; and lending confidence to investors and the public in future MAR schemes.
Project benefits
The Raising National Water Standards investment assisted in developing guidelines for sourcing water from managed aquifer recharge. The guidelines advance key National Water Initiative urban reform outcomes, particularly relating to providing healthy, safe and reliable water supplies, encouraging the re-use and recycling of wastewater where cost effective and encouraging innovation in water supply sourcing, treatment, storage and discharge.
