Measurement to improve water efficiency of on-farm storages in the cotton industry - progress

May 2010

Forty three on-farm water storages evaluations have been successfully completed.

Telemetry instruments are being fitted to all meters to improve the rate of evaluations.

Findings from the project are being presented at the upcoming IAL conference  and the Australian Cotton conference .

Expressions of interest are still open in the areas of Namoi, Macquarie, St George and parts of Southern New South Wales, if you are a cotton grower, have an on-farm storage and are interested in evaluating its evaporation and seepage please contact David Wigginton at david.wigginton@usq.edu.au or  telephone (07) 4631 1711 or 0438 667 835.

April 2009

There are now six consultants working across nine valleys of the Murray-Darling Basin providing subsidised water storage measurement services to irrigation properties.

The consultants are using a range of technologies to detect water storage losses through seepage and evaporation and are recommending a range of mitigation measures, which will be monitored for effectiveness.
