Irrigation and other rural water projects

Investments to achieve more effective and efficient management of irrigation water, including irrigation system water and on-farm water, and other rural water.

Announced projects include:

New technology to reduce evaporation from large water storages

Formulating and testing new technologies for evaporation control of water storages.

Measurement, monitoring and reporting systems for improved management of regional water resources

Increasing the productivity and efficiency of Australian water use under the National Water Initiative.

Farms, rivers, markets: a whole-of-system approach to doing more with less water

Demonstrating an integrated whole of system approach to deliver more efficient water management for farmers, water service providers and environmental water managers.

Spatial algorithm for mapping evapotranspiration (SAM-ET) for water productivity and vegetation health

Increasing the productivity and efficiency of Australian water use under the National Water Initiative.

Measuring water use at the catchment scale: solving the great unknown in water accounting

Focussing on the measurement and application of evapotranspiration data.

Improving irrigation efficiency in the cotton industry - a grower-led approach

Lifting water-use efficiency in the Gwydir Valley by 10% through a combination of new on-farm technology and associated education activities.

Measurement to improve water efficiency of on-farm storages in the cotton industry

Measuring and monitoring evaporation and seepage losses from up to 135 on-farm storages across the cotton industry and monitoring the impact of amelioration works.

Identification of factors that potentially influence uptake of smart metering technology

Developing and extending an innovative technological tool that can be coupled with a meter to provide water use information leading to improved practice and efficiency on-farm.
