About the project
The Australian Government has contributed funds to accelerate the development of the National Measurement Institute water metering standards for non-domestic applications.
The National Measurement Institute is the national body responsible for the development of pattern approvals and verification standards for trade measurement devices. The water metering standards program will deliver a suite of standards to support the implementation of national water metering requirements under the National Water Initiative, including specifications and standards for water meters and associated devices.
Project benefits
The National Measurement Institute water meter standards program will advance the National Water Initiative objectives of water accounting. Understanding how much water is available and is being used, and where and when, is central to effective water management, planning and trading. The use of standardised meters and measurement devices will provide credible and reliable information on which to base water management decisions, allow for greater security in the provision of water, and support delivery of state and national water accounts.
