About the project
This project produced a discussion paper that canvassed the risks and benefits associated with the use of recycled water for drinking purposes and explained how these risks can be avoided or managed.
The Waterlines publication focused on reviewing technical, scientific and social aspects of the use of recycled water for drinking purposes, drawing on international and Australian information. The discussion paper provided a cutting edge series of publications on recycled water for drinking that informs public debate on the issues surrounding use of recycled water as an option for augmenting drinking supplies.
Project benefits
The publication provided an overview of issues related to the use of recycled water for drinking and enabled greater available literature for policy makers, water managers and the general public to make informed decisions on this issue. It complements NWI paragraph 92(i) and in particular the development of Phase 2 guidelines for the use of recycled water.
