Position statements
The Commission is improving the quality of debate about water in Australia by publishing position statements on major water issues.
Each statement identifies a particular reform challenge, summarises associated commitments under the National Water Initiative (NWI) and sketches reform progress to date. Position statements also outline the recommended actions that the Commission deems vital to progress reform.
To date, the Commission has released position statements on:
- interception
- mining
- sustainable levels of extraction
- water-dependent ecosystems
- groundwater
- urban water pricing
- water planning
- water data sharing
- water intermediaries
- recycled water for drinking
- cost effectiveness of rainwater tanks in urban Australia
Most position statements accompany a Waterlines report, which provides a more detailed examination of the issue.
Senate inquiry submissions
Where relevant, the Commission makes submissions to Senate inquiries to provide evidence and opinions on water reform issues.
